"Failure" is an opportunity to learn!
When a person takes their first steps in the water to go surfing, it will only be moments before they do something incorrectly. Maybe they carry their board wrong and get smacked by a wave, or try and paddle but keep "burying the nose" and nosediving. It doesn't take long to "fail," and it can be quite defeating. But if we know it's going to be difficult, we can go into it and be patient while we lower our expectations for the day.
In the last few years, I have learned I can push myself to failure because it shows me a weakness I can work on. But it also keeps me humble and ready to find out how to fix the problem. When it comes to surfing, a new surfer can do the same thing.... and if they do, little victories will occur rapidly if advice from more advanced surfers is taken. For example- let's say a person is too far back on their board, and while paddling for waves, their board's nose is sticking up in the air. So instead of cruising through the water, they barely move and can't catch a wave. If I recommend they move up on the board by 1 inch at a time, but they don't take the advice, it'll be a long and frustrating day for the new guy. On the other hand, if they move up slowly and then find the "Sweet spot," it will eventually make sense, and it will be much easier to catch waves.
For me, "failure" carries no shame and especially no regret. I get to learn what my weakness is and fix it. I have my own saying, "Find the problem, fix the problem. Next problem!" By doing this, I can find the little weaknesses, ask questions, and devise a plan to fix them. This has been an exciting way to learn new things, and I learn them quickly instead of taking me forever like it did in the past.
Are you able to look at "failure" as an opportunity?
