For me, California is where it all started. Born in SoCal and raised in the mountains, I loved life there and spent my winters at the ski resort, tearing up the slopes as a little kid. Eventually, my family moved to the beach, where I learned how to surf, and I couldn't imagine leaving! But when my friends started dying in car accidents and other ways, I moved to Chicago, where I had some friends and could grow up. If you check out my Testimony, you'll read that I was in Chicago for 7 years trying to get onto the Fire Department but joined the Coast Guard instead. After Coast Guard Boot Camp, I got sent right back to my hometown near L.A. and eventually transferred to San Diego, where I served in the Coast Guard for many years.
While in San Diego, a friend of mine and myself opened a "Christain Surf Shop" that was far more exciting than I could have ever imagined. But after 3 years of kids coming there and telling us their problems in life, we decided to close the shop because we desperately needed 24-hour crisis counselors at the shop but could not find any. And it was at that time that I went to Seminary so that I could figure out how to help people like our kids. It was extremely difficult to close the shop, and we felt like we were abandoning the kids, but I helped open up a youth ministry at one of the local churches to continue to reach out to them with more resources.
After graduating from Seminary, I hoped to become a Marine Corps Chaplain, but God sent me a different route, back to the Coast Guard, where I spent many more exciting years serving the country while trying to share God's love and peace in the workplace. While I served at the various units, God set me up to learn many exciting qualifications to the point where I became an instructor in those areas. And as an instructor, I was able to help many younger members get qualified for exciting jobs, which allowed them to feel more of a sense of ownership and responsibility. Seeing their smiles as they took off in the small boat without me as their instructor was always a proud moment, and God set me up with hundreds of opportunities such as this one.
Eventually, it was time to retire, and I asked God, "What's next?" It felt like God said, "Go to South Florida and start riding your bike north." Instead of helping others, it would be a time for me to focus on my relationship with God and learn to be a little more like Him each day. What I thought would be a 1-year journey turned into a 2.5-year adventure of a lifetime. And when I arrived in California to watch my Nephew at the motorcycle racetrack, it was apparent that God was bringing that chapter in my life to a close and beginning a new one where I would have time, for once in my life, to spend a lot of time with my Nephew who is on the Home page, on his motorcycle at Laguna Seca. And now, it's time to open this business while I continue to develop the YouTube Channels and continue some exciting adventures.
